The great Patti LaBelle was due to sing a festive number at the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the US back in 1996… but things went wrong.
Not only did Ms LaBelle’s backing singers forget to turn up, but also the cards on which her lyrics were printed seemed to be similarly absent, causing her to have something of an on-stage meltdown.
After quite calmly berating her non-present singers, she basically manages to carry an entire song by ad-libbing, including introducing a soloist (and singing over him, cos why not).
