Howard Shore: Lord of the Movie Music Chart
The soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings has topped the Classic FM Movie Music Chart, reclaiming its position of last year. Howard Shore’s music for Peter Jackson’s monumental adaptation of the novel is followed at number two by Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-nominated score for the epic blockbuster Gladiator.
John Williams makes the greatest number of appearances in the Chart – 11 in all, including two in the top 10: Star Wars and Schindler’s List.
This year sees a surge in interest for the music of the British film composer John Barry, who died in January. He had four entries in total, including Out of Africa at number three and Dances with Wolves at five.
Other high-scoring composers include James Horner, who boasts such soundtracks as Avatar, Titanic, Braveheart and Apollo 13, and Ennio Morricone, whose scores include The Mission and Cinema Paradiso.
The Classic FM Movie Music Chart, now in its third year, is voted for by thousands of Classic FM listeners and readers of Classic FM Magazine.
