Alexandre Desplat on The King's Speech
The film composer Alexandre Desplat has an anxious time ahead of him. His score for The King's Speech is amongst the film's astonishing 12 Oscar and 14 BAFTA nominations. While he scooped a BAFTA, the Academy Awards are announced on Sunday.
Desplat was director Tom Hooper's first choice for the job, and the two men worked closely on the concept from first discussions to final recording at the prestigious Abbey Road studios.
Alexandre Desplat is in London at the moment working on the score for the next Harry Potter film. A big Classic FM fan, he came into the studios and spoke to Lucy Coward. He told her about his working relationship with Tom Hooper and the principles behind the theme he created for what has become one of the surprise success stories of 2011.
To celebrate The King's Speech's remarkable achievements, we tracked down Tom Hooper and Colin Firth, as well as Alexandre Desplat, and created a special The King's Speech Podcast.
