Bernstein Project at the Southbank Centre

This season-long project celebrates the life and work of Leonard Bernstein with performances, talks, films and workshops.

Bernstein protégé Marin Alsop is leading the Southbank Centre as Artistic Director in a series of events to celebrate Bernstein as not only one of the most important musicians of the twentieth century, but as an educator, communicator and humanitarian.

This unique season-long musical event has a magnificent selection of performers, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Nash Ensemble, Britten Sinfonia and the National Youth Orchestra.

The project will also be using West Side Story to develop four separate weekend events for dancers and singers of all abilities, working with top vocal coaches and choreographers.

The Bernstein Project began on 20 September with an event-packed day including workshops, films and talks.  It continues until 10 July 2010, when Alsop will conduct Bernstein's Mass.
