Inside the Royal Opera House Costume Department

This weekend the costume department of the Royal Opera House opens its doors for a special sale. Classic FM's Lucy Coward talked to Costume Workroom Manager Mal Barton all about it...

The sale, which takes place this Saturday (September 24) and Sunday (September 25), is part of an effort to raise money for future works. There will be over 1500 costumes from past productions, many of which were worn by the finest international opera singers.

Lucy Coward caught up with Costume Workroom Manager Mal Barton from the Royal Opera House to find out what we can expect from the sale, the process of creating and preserving costumes, and about her own favourite pieces from the vast collection.
