This is the latest exhibition in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art’s Scottish Colourist Series. Samuel John Peploe was the most successful of the four artists popularly known as The Scottish Colourists, and was considered to be the leader of the group. Celebrated for his beautiful still lifes, Peploe depicted a selection of props, including roses, tulips and coffee pots, placed in an infinite variety of combinations and lovingly painted them in his Edinburgh studio.
This fascinating exhibition brings together more than 100 of Peploe’s most significant paintings from public and private collections, including highlights such as the 1905 masterpiece, The Coffee Pot, early 1920s work, Red and Pink Roses, Oranges and Fan, and a selection of the original objects used within Peploe’s still life arrangements.
You and a friend will discover the background to Peploe’s celebrated still lifes and stunning French and Scottish landscapes on a personal tour with an exhibition curator, receive a copy of the exhibition catalogue, and indulge in a sumptuous afternoon tea in the Gallery’s Café.
You'll also enjoy a two night stay at Channings*, a charming four star luxury hotel situated within Edinburgh’s elegant Georgian New Town. Channings is also the former home of celebrated Polar explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. Your prize will also include £250 spending money.
