Grand Opera Gala Southbank Centre

Win a pair of tickets to see The Philharmonia Orchestra, the Philharmonia Chorus and three star soloists to perform great choruses and a selection of arias from some of the world's most celebrated operas.

At its very best, opera has the ability to move listeners through its rich and achingly beautiful melodies – often to be heard in its choruses.

In this Grand Opera Gala concert, the Philharmonia Chorus give voice to some of the greatest choruses ever composed with performances of music by Wagner, Gounod, Puccini, Verdi, Offenbach and Bizet. The concert commences with the dramatic Wach Auf! from The Mastersingers of Nuremburg, followed by the uplifting barcarolle from The Tales of Hoffmann and the Bridal March from Lohengrin.

Other highlights include the Soldiers’ Chorus from Faust, the beautiful Humming Chorus from Madama Butterfly, the iconic Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco and the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore. The concert concludes with the inimitable Grand March from Aida – one of the most acclaimed opera choruses of all time.
