On the beach between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness is an impressive four-tonne steel statue tribute to local hero, Britten. 'The Scallop' was designed by artist Maggi Hambling and is inscribed with the words, "I hear those voices that will not be drowned", taken from Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes.
