Every Saturday night at 9pm-10pm, David Mellor reviews all the latest classical music releases.
David Mellor picks Maria João Pires's new recording of Beethoven's third and fourth piano concertos as his Album of the Week.
For her first recording on the ONYX label, the great Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires has recorded two Beethoven concertos that she has played often, but never before recorded. After giving concerts in Stockholm last October, she went directly into the studio with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This remarkable recording is the result. David Mellor has no hesitation in recommending it as his Album of the Week.
