The New Releases Show - Saturday 11 July 2015, 9pm

David Mellor has pianos galore tonight with a Chinese masterpiece, a forgotten concerto and Mendelssohn's superb trios.

Tonight David showcases the new album from one of the world's finest young pianists, championing a piece that has fallen into neglect alongside an evergreen favourite. The piano concerto by Moritz Moszkowski (1854-1925) is an unjustly forgotten work. It overflows with memorable tunes and is very skilfully constructed. and Joseph Moog gives to the work's brilliant, fluid writing his own strong sense of style and melody.

There's also a new collection of Grieg 's Lyric Pieces to enjoy, performed with Chopinesque lyricism by Janina Fialkowska , a Chinese classic - the Butterfly Lovers' Concerto - perfumed by Lu Siqing , and a new recording of Mendelssohn 's Piano Trios.

David has some guitar music too as Andrea Bissell plays masterpieces and lost works by Heitor Villa-Lobos. His Études go back to his first meeting with the great guitarist Segovia, at which the legendary player asked for one étude and the composer ended up writing twelve. Andrea Bissoli returns to the original 1928 manuscript, restoring elements lost in later publication and reliving the magic of those times on an instrument almost identical to Segovia’s.
