Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Classical Music - Sunday 2 March 2014

A celebration of the greatest music by C.P.E. Bach who was born 300 years ago.

On this week's show, Catherine Bott celebrates the 300th anniversary of the birth of Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach.

The second surviving son of Johann Sebastian Bach, he became a highly influential composer working during the period when the Baroque style was giving way to the Classical. Mozart said of him, “He is the father, we are the children” and Beethoven admired him greatly.

Tonight, Catherine explores C.P.E. Bach’s music – from flute concertos composed for his patron Frederick the Great, through to the extraordinary, ambitious choral masterpieces he wrote at the end of his life.
