Alex continues his journey through all the biggest dates, anniversaries and important events in the classical music world over the week ahead.

Tonight, Alex James opens the show with Gershwin 's An American in Paris , premiered at New York's Carnegie Hall on this day in 1928.  

Alex also reveals why, on 13 December 1908, Vaughan Williams upped sticks and moved to France to spend three months studying with fellow composer, Maurice Ravel .

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Alex marks the premieres of Sibelius 's Symphony No.5 and Schubert 's Symphony No.6 , celebrates the publication of Vivaldi 's Four Seasons , and tells the story of the first performance of Dvorak 's now-famous Symphony No.9 ('From the New World') .  

And Rossini agrees a deal that will see him write his opera The Barber of Seville, and Mozart completes his Piano Concerto No.22.
