The World's Greatest Music
Since his childhood days as a choirboy, Aled Jones has always loved choral music. So every Sunday on Classic FM, he invites you to be spiritually uplifted by his Choral Classic. Find out more about the pieces here and reflect on a stunning photo as you listen.
This haunting piece was conceived for the acclaimed television dramatisation of John le Carré’s 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'. It briefly entered the UK pop chart Top 10 in 1979 before becoming an enduring place in the church repertoire. The composer said, "Like many of my best pieces, it came to me very clearly and complete. And I always thought of it as being part of a tradition of sacred music, not a piece deliberately written in a “pop” style." Photo of Wells Cathedral: Josep Renalias
