Alison Balsom records live album 'Légende': recital for trumpet and piano

Trumpeter Alison Balsom has the highest new entry with her debut recital album.

There's little change in the Top Ten this week but Alison Balsom is the highest new entry at No. 11 with her album Légende. Accompanied by her regular recital pianist Tom Poster, Alison dishes up quality arrangements of two big items from the 'Great American Songbook', Gershwin’s Someone to Watch Over Me, and Jerome Kern’s The Way You Look Tonight, as well as little known works including Jean Françaix’s perky Sonatine, Georges Enescu’s Légende, and Alexander Gaudicke’s Concert Etude. And there’s a charming arrangement of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’s Farewell to Stromness.

Last week's Album of the Week, The Queen's 90th Birthday Concert – featuring specially composed music by our Composer-in-Residence Debbie Wiseman – is another new entry at No. 23.
