William Alwyn came to Blythburgh to escape the pressures of life and took to painting and writing poetry, no doubt inspired by the vast marshes and skies around him. He wrote over 70 scores for films such as ‘Odd Man Out’ and ‘The Crimson Pirate’ but, like a lot of film composers, had difficulty getting his more 'serious' work noticed.
