The New Releases Show - Saturday 12 September 2015, 9pm
David Mellor casts an eye - and his ears - over the latest classical albums and re-releases.
Tonight David enjoys an album which is also John Brunning's featured album on Classic FM Drive. Silver Bow sees the bright young flautist Kathryn Bryan playing her own flute arrangements of classic violin pieces, including a complete performance of Vaughan Williams's The Lark Ascending.
David also dips into a former Classic FM Album of the Week in which Anne-Sophie Mutter takes classical music to a hip and happening audience at a fashionable Berlin nightclub.
The impressive vocal ensemble Voces8 shine a light on a hidden musical treasure in world-premiere recordings of Charles Avison’s 1757 adaptation of Benedetto Marcello’s Estro-poetico armonico. A fresh and original collection, Marcello’s Psalm settings were composed in Venice and quickly found fame across Europe after their publication between 1724 and 1726.
And there's also an album that includes a piece that Max Bruch described as the best piece he ever wrote for violin and orchestra - and it's not his famous concerto.
