Every Saturday night at 9pm-10pm, David Mellor reviews all the latest classical music releases.
David Mellor picks some contemporary TV music as one of his favourite new releases this week.
Among David Mellor 's selection of the best of the new album releases this Saturday, he's chosen the soundtrack music to the TV drama, Broadchurch.
It's by the Bafta-winning multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds from Iceland, who usually mixes strings and piano with loops and beats crossing-over from ambient/electronic to pop.
Arnald's music for Broadchurch is "on an altogether higher plane that most theme music for television programmes," says David. "I am looking forward to hearing more from Ólafur Arnalds…That seems to me to be far and away the best part of the new Broadchurch ."
Also tonight, David features the 2015 New Year's Day Concert from Vienna with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, and the new release from vocal ensemble Voces8 , titled Lux . There's some marvellous, rarely-heard cello music by the Belgian composer Vieuxtemps, and a look back on the recording partnership of the great conductor Claudio Abbado and the Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich.
