The New Releases Show with David Mellor - Saturday 29 November 2014, 9pm

Recordings by the great pianist Richter come under David Mellor's spotlight.

David Mellor has got his hands on a brilliant new 18-CD edition of recordings by the great pianist Sviatoslav Richter, not due for release until next January.

It includes the first-ever release of Richter's complete Columbia Masterworks and RCA Victor live and studio recordings in original jacket editions, as well as Richter’s legendary five October 1960 Carnegie Hall recitals, which showcased the breadth of his repertoire from Haydn and Beethoven to Debussy and Rachmaninoff, with one programme completely devoted to Prokofiev - a composer with whom Richter worked closely. David will be previewing the whole collection tonight.

He will also be reviewing the London Symphony Orchestra's latest recording of Mendelssohn symphonies, and a fresh new interpretation of Handel’s Messiah.
