Every Saturday night at 9pm-10pm, David Mellor reviews all the latest classical music releases.
David Mellor casts an eye – and his ears – over the best of the recently released and re-released classical albums
Among his pick of the new classical album releases this week, David has discovered a superb reissue of Dvorak's New World Symphony featuring the great Czech conductor Karel Ancerl. Remastered from original 1961 recordings, Ancerl got a very distinctive and authentic mid-European sound from his orchestra, with a strong rustic, folk dance feeling.
Also tonight, David enjoys an album of 20th century American choral classics performed by the excellent vocal ensemble Polyphony, directed by Stephen Layton, and there's some glittering light music for piano by the English band-leader Billy Mayerl, performed by Philip Martin.
