Every Saturday night at 9pm-10pm, David Mellor reviews all the latest classical music releases.
David Mellor's Album of the Week from Martha Argerich and Friends requires an open musical mind.
For his Album of the Week, David Mellor has chosen the latest instalment of highlights from the Martha Argerich Project at the Lugano Festival.
This is the eleventh annual 3-CD set celebrating the musical fruits of a project in which young artists join seasoned performers, including Argerich herself to explore wide-ranging chamber music and orchestral repertoire, both well-known and rarely heard.
There's a full performance of Beethoven 's Piano Concerto No.1 played by Argerich but the really special treats come in the other pieces where all the performers let their hair down and make fantastic music.
Here is David's pick of the new releases for this week:
Young Artist to Watch
Vittorio Grigolo: The Romanic Hero
Vittorio Grigolo/Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI/Evelino Pidò
David Mellor's verdict: "Is he as good as Kauffman? I'm not sure, but he is still a young man and always developing."
