Students summer

Monday 15 July

It’s More Mozart Monday, and we start Story Week on the School Run – consider it an end of term treat. Every day, musical stories. Today, it’s The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Plus – Rodrigo is our Great Composer, so something from him every day between 6 and 7, and we also have guitarist Julian Bream in the Big Book of Classic FM.  He’ll rustle us up some great summer morning music.

Tuesday 16 July

If it’s your birthday, wake up to music from a couple of people who share it: violinist Pinchas Zukerman and pianist/polyglot Joanna MacGregor. And Story Week continues on the School Run with The Lord of the Rings . Send your School Run dedication to Tim now.

Wednesday 17 July

There’s a fresh, aquatic feel to Wednesday morning as Tim marks the premiere of Handel ’s Water Music . Imagine it: the King, Handel, and 50-odd musicians in a barge on the choppy Thames, serenading the monarch with music that endures to this day. Plus – what links the Water Music to Wimbledon champion Andy Murray? Find out…and get a dedication on the School Run in Story Week. Today, it’s Hansel and Gretel.

Thursday 18 July

Tim might open up the Classic FM Dictionary this morning.  Latest definitions include SAXOPHONES (bags full of mobiles) and PIANO (a well-known shipping company). Legendary conductor Kurt Masur is in the Big Book of Classic FM – and we’ll hear from this week’s Great Composer, Rodrigo, before 7.

Friday 19 July

Today, on Brian May’s birthday, Tim is going for a Queen Friday Five a Day. Can you think of any great pieces of classical music to serenade the glam-rock giants? Plus, hit music from birthday girl, Dame Evelyn Glennie , and we award The Freedom of Classic FM to someone who is hanging up to baton/sticks/boots/pen etc for good.
