The Full Works Concert - Thursday 7 March 2013: Concert Hall Favourites

Jane Jones presents three very different Full Works concerts, including a John Eliot Gardiner conducted performance of Holst's The Planets by the Philharmonia Orchestra

Tonight, three fine full works that really couldn’t be more different!  First up is Prokofiev’s Symphony No.1 (‘Classical’), in a brilliant recording from the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.  After that, we’ll enjoy the whole of Debussy first set of Preludes for piano, performed by the Scottish pianist Steven Osborne.  And to conclude tonight’s concert, we’ll hear Holst’s The Planets, performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by John Eliot Gardiner.
