Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Classical Music - Sunday 9 August 2015, 9pm

Catherine Bott embarks upon a musical journey tonight to discover the varied instruments of the world.

On tonight's show Catherine Bott asks the question, "How did certain musical instruments become associated with certain cultures?"

Standby for a dazzling hour of mainly stringed instruments, in their manifold guises: Hungarian fiddles, Spanish guitars and Russian balalaikas. The Welsh harp represents the United Kingdom and there’s a brief reel from a traditional American banjo.

If you prefer your instruments with air blowing through them, Catherine also features a Swiss alpine horn playing an original concerto by Mozart’s father, and the beloved French accordion, with Yann Tiersen's beguiling music from the film Amélie, (pictured).
