Symphony No.7 in A major Opus 92 (4) Ludwig Van Beethoven
Thursday 14th November marks the 65th birthday of HRH The Prince of Wales. There have been few members of the royal family in recent decades who have championed classical music quite so enthusiastically; he has commissioned a piano concerto from Nigel Hess in memory of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and a 'Highgrove Suite' from Patrick Hawes. He's also championed the music of Parry.
In tonight's show, Catherine asks the question 'Is royalty relevant to classical music?' She goes back in time to the early 17th century to Nicholas Lanier, the first Master of the King’s Musick. Other such Masters that Catherine highlights include William Boyce, Edward Elgar, and the current holder of the position, Peter Maxwell-Davies - and she also showcases Michael Tippett's Suite for the Birthday of Prince Charles.
