Looking back at the smiling school boy who was the New Faces winner, Lenny told Nick Ferrari “I think he had great courage, 16 years old with no experience, I’d never really done any shows, so I look at that boy and think god you were brave!”
Actor, writer and comedian Lenny Henry joined Nick Ferrari on the Classic FM Interview for a chat about his life, career and Shakespeare.
With a distinct talent for doing voices – it was impersonating Stevie Wonder that first made Lenny Henry famous back in 1975 when he won the New Faces talent competition. Born in Dudley in the West Midlands he’s been a regular feature on the television ever since, from Tiswas to Chef, to his love of wearing a red nose in the aid of charity.
In more recent times he’s received rave reviews in his performance on the stage in Shakespeare’s Othello, and he’s just embarked on a nationwide tour called Pop-Life!
He spent an hour talking to Nick Ferrari about why he loves opera, discovering pieces of classical music whilst studying for his MA and reflecting on his career.
