Classic FM at the Ballet

Saturdays, 2pm

Deborah Bull

World-renowned ballerina and broadcaster Deborah Bull joins Classic FM for a special series of six programmes, in association with Bolshoi Unseen, a season she is hosting on Sky Arts 2 HD.

On Classic FM at the Ballet, Deborah showcases her all-time favourite scores from the ballet, including some little-known musical gems.

Following her first introductory show on 1 November in which she focuses on Giselle and other featured ballets in the season, Deborah embarks on five programmes, each looking at a particular theme inspired by a specific ballet.

In the second programme - Saturday 8 November - she explores how the dance form has borrowed from diverse cultures, with a special focus on Don Quixote. Transformation at the ballet includes Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake on 15 November.

In her fourth show on 22 November, Deborah looks at conflict, uprisings and rivalry with the help of Khachaturian’s Spartacus

And in weeks five and six - 29 November and 6 December - it’s time to herald the Christmas season with perennial favourites, The Nutcracker and the pinnacle of 19th century classical ballet, The Sleeping Beauty.
