Alex James' Magical Musical Tour - 8 March 2014

Alex James looks at the music of great women composers as he ventures into the world of the W.I.

It’s UN International Women's Day – so tonight, Alex James's destination is a rather unusual one: a meeting of the Women's Institute.

Beginning with Hubert Parry's Jerusalem - the anthem of the WI - Alex will go on to feature music by a wide range of female composers who have been unfairly neglected or overlooked over the centuries, from Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn (pictured) to the American Amy Beach and the contemporary British composer, Phamie Gow.
