Alex James' Magical Musical Tour - 25 January 2014

Alex James explores the musical heritage of Poland.

This week, Alex James’s Magical Musical Tour sees him head to Poland.

He'll be sharing music by some of the country’s most famous composers, including Henryk Gorecki – whose Symphony of Sorrowful Songs became a million-selling hit in the 1990s, when it was first championed by Classic FM.

The music of Chopin (pictured) will feature heavily, too – although he took French nationality in 1835, Chopin was born in Poland and grew up there.

And we'll be hearing from the violinist Nigel Kennedy, whose love of Poland led him to emigrate to Warsaw, where he now lives for much of the year.
