Alex James celebrates the big anniversaries in the classical music world for the week ahead.
Tonight Alex begins in Budapest where, on this day in 1873, a very big party was thrown in honour of Franz Liszt , to mark his half-century as a composer and performer. The party lasted three whole days - and Alex will reveal exactly why.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, it's a happy 49th birthday to the Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel (pictured) and the anniversary of the first performance of Rachmaninov 's Piano Concerto No.2 .
Alex tells the story of Fritz Kreisler's American debut at the age of just 13, marks the first anniversary of the death of the English composer John Tavener , and turns his attention to Abbey Road, which hosted its very first recording on 12th November 1931.
But what, exactly, was the piece of music that was recorded there?
