Alex James's Date Night - Saturday 3 January 2015, 7pm

Alex James looks at the most important dates in the classical music world.

For his first programme of the new year, Alex celebrates the work of the Light Music conductor and composer Ronald Corp (pictured), born on 4th January 1951. It's also the 140th anniversary of the birth of the Czech composer Josef Suk.

Alex marks the premiere of Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No.1 and the 120th anniversary of the first performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta Princess Ida, as well as shining the spotlight on Rhapsody in Blue, which George Gershwin began writing 90 years ago this week.
