Alex James's Date Night - Saturday 22 November

In his exciting series, Alex James showcases the anniversaries, birthdays and 'on this day' events for the week ahead.

This week, Alex James begins by celebrating a variety of British composers and musicians who were all born on this day in history.

There's the conductor Edward Gardner, pictured, who's 40 today, and the pianist Stephen Hough, who's lighting 53 candles on his cake. And Benjamin Britten was born 101 years ago today.

Other events of note this week include a young Hector Berlioz making his conducting debut in Paris, the birth of the chart-topping minimalist composer Ludovico Einaudi, and the first ever concert at the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
