In the second episode of his new show, Alex James explores the anniversaries, birthdays and 'on this day' events in the classical music world over the coming week.

Alex will also take a trip to France to hear La Marseillaise, which became the country's official national anthem on 14th July 1795.

Discover the best (and worst) national anthems, according to David Mellor >

Alex will also be celebrating the music of George Gershwin, whose funeral was held in New York on 15th July 1937; and uncovers some important marital decisions that occurred in July, for both Mozart and Tchaikovsky.
