Alex James's Date Night - 11 October 2014, 7pm

What do Vaughan Williams and Luciano Pavarotti have in common? Find out this evening.

On this day in 1727, Handel’s Zadok the Priest received its premiere performance at Westminster Abbey, at the Coronation of George II.  Alex begins his Date Night with it tonight, before going on to celebrate Vaughan Williams – born on 12th October 1872 in the Gloucestershire village of Down Ampney. His birthplace is pictured above.

Sharing Vaughan Williams’s birthday is the late, great Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, born 63 years later to the day. We'll be hearing some of his finest recordings tonight, as well.
