The World's Greatest Music
Closing ceremony star Julian Lloyd Webber talks exclusively to Classic FM’s Jamie Crick about what it’s really like to play Elgar in front of a billion people… on top of the Royal Albert Hall.
It’s not every day you’re asked to perform classical music on top of the Royal Albert Hall, in front of a billion people, in a programme alongside rock legends Queen, Pink Floyd, and The Who. It’s a good thing Julian Lloyd Webber doesn’t suffer from vertigo.
“I’ve got used to playing in all kinds of places, but this was a bit different!” he said, following his unforgettable performance of Elgar’s Salut d’Amour at the London 2012 closing ceremony.
But how can he ever top that? Now Julian’s got a taste for rock star performances, he tells Jamie Crick where he might want to play next – and he’s set his sights pretty high.
