Classic FM caught up with Anthony Sargent, General Director of The Sage Gateshead, at the beginning of Northern Sinfonia's lively new season.
500 concerts a year, and an enormous education programme - managing the Sage Gateshead is no mean feat. Classic FM caught up with the man who makes sure everything fits together, Anthony Sargent, General Director of The Sage Gateshead.
Jamie Crick spoke to him yesterday after the wonderful concert from Northern Sinfonia, where he said the music sounded just like a CD recording. According to Anthony Sargent, It's all down to the amazing acoustic in the hall.
"We spent more money on the acoustic, almost, than any other aspect of the building because it's the one completely unforgiving thing," he said. "If you spend £50million building a centre like this and the acoustics aren't great, you've kind of wasted the whole lot!"
