As Classic FM prepares to celebrate its 20th birthday, we reflect on some of the inspirational and influential stars and classical musicians that we have been lucky enough to meet.
Composer Sir John Tavener cites that hearing Stravinsky’s Canticum Sacrum on the radio in 1956, made a lasting impression. Classic FM's Anne-Marie Minhall had the pleasure of interviewing this prolific composer. All of Tavener’s works are hand-written on manuscript paper, either in ink or pencil. He is best known for religious, minimal works such as The Whale which was performed at the inaugural concert of the London Sinfonietta in 1966 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.
