Classic FM's John Suchet has won the coveted Gold award at the New York Festivals International Radio Programme Awards in the Best Radio Personality category.

Competing against a huge range of international competitors, Suchet was selected as Best Radio Personality by an esteemed panel of judges from radio organisations across the world.

The ceremony itself took place in Manhattan last night. Awards presenter Ben Manilla commented on the strength of this year's field: "What makes these awards so meaningful is the international scope of the entries."

"Radio is a medium that transcends language. So to be among this esteemed group of creative minds and to win an award is truly an accomplishment."

The win for Suchet comes after Classic FM won Best Classical Format at the same awards ceremony last year.
