Classic FM’s listenership grows!

The latest official radio listening figures have just been published – and there’s some great news for Classic FM.

Our family of listeners has grown by almost 600,000 people over the past 12 months, with 6.1 million listeners now tuning in to Classic FM each week. In fact, if you go back just a little further to the beginning of 2010, Classic FM’s weekly audience has grown by one million people since then.

These latest figures are published by Rajar, which provides the official radio listening statistics for both the BBC and Commercial Radio. This latest survey covers the first three months of 2011 and coincides with the period when John Suchet took over our morning programme. John’s arrival has given the morning show a massive boost in listening, with 247,000 more people tuning into the programme than this time last year, giving his show a total weekly audience of 2.936 million listeners.

There were audience increases across the day for all Classic FM’s programmes, with Nick Bailey, Jamie Crick, John Brunning, Jane Jones and Margherita Taylor all seeing audiences for their programmes grow.

Whether you’re one of the 571,000 listeners who have joined the Classic FM family over the past 12 months, or you’ve been listening for much longer, all of us here at Classic FM would like to say a big thank you for tuning in.

We’re the only radio station in the UK that plays the greatest classical music all day, every day. And that’s something we promise we’ll be doing for many years to come.
