A ceremony in Manhattan for the New York International Radio Festival has awarded Classic FM in the 'Best Classical Format' category.

Classic FM's Managing Editor Sam Jackson commented: "The entire Classic FM team, both on-air and off-air, are hugely honoured to receive this prestigious award."

"Every week, more people in the UK encounter classical music through Classic FM than via any other broadcast medium – and to have our achievements acknowledged by the New York Radio Festival in this way is a real privilege."

The award comes after two recent successes for Classic FM: winning UK Radio Brand of the Year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards and the Creative Communication award at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards last month.

The New York International Radio Festival awards honour innovative programming from around the world, taking submissions from radio stations in 36 countries.

Executive Director of New York Festivals Rose Anderson commented: "The Grand Jury recognized innovation and excellence as reflected by the Gold Trophy Classic FM earned for Best Classical Format. The winning entry illustrates the breadth of Classic FM’s creative programming."
