Bach Flashmob stuns Californian plaza

Musicians from the Carmel Bach Festival shocked crowds of shoppers with an impromptu Bach Flashmob performance.

Twelve brass musicians staged a Bach flashmob in the middle of a busy plaza in Carmel, California on Tuesday. Bemused shoppers and visitors to the area were apparently delighted when it became obvious that the plain-clothes musicians were in fact pumping out Bach’s music as part of the Carmel Bach Festival.

This top-secret operation was designed by the festival organisers and the brass ensemble Tower Brass to dispel the notion that Bach’s music has no relevance today, and that classical musicians are confined to the concert hall.

The Carmel Bach Festival is in its 75th year and is this year is using ‘Spheres of Influence’ as a theme. We’re not sure where Flashmobs figure in that theme, but it looks like it was a hit. Unfortunately, no video of the event is currently available, but we’ll post one if it becomes available.
