The legendary tenor spoke to Margherita Taylor backstage at The Global Awards after picking up the award for Best Classical Artist

Andrea Bocelli told Margherita “My sons especially love Ed Sheeran very much. When he came to my house, all my family were very happy.”

He also said that he was initially concerned that his style wouldn’t work for the melody of Sheeran’s song ‘Perfect’:

“I liked that he wanted very much that I performed like a tenor in his song. At the beginning I was completely surprised – I really didn’t think I’d be able to do this.

But he came to my house and finally we did it, and it seems that people have liked it.”

Asked who he’d like to collaborate with in the future, Bocelli said: “The world is full of beautiful voices and I love voices since I was a child. So the opportunity to sing very close to a beautiful voice, it’s a big privilege.”
