15 November 2016, 16:23

Is there anything more Christmassy than an ice rink and Christmas market in the grounds of Winchester Cathedral - with the music provided by Classic FM? No there isn't.

Winchester Cathedral's Christmas market and ice rink celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. This magical Christmas event, held in the shadow of the 1,000-year-old gothic cathedral, now attracts over 350,000 visitors a year and has made a reputation for itself as being one of the best in Europe.

Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market

Founded in 2006, the Christmas Market celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It is recognised as one of the best in Europe and loved for its unique location - nestled beside the cathedral in its historic close and surrounding a real ice rink. Add to that a playlist selected by Classic FM and you have the perfect atmosphere for a seasonal day-trip.

Find over 100 chalets filled with high quality exhibitors, hand-picked for their interesting, unique and exclusive products. The focus on British crafts, independent traders and artisan festive foods, as well as regular performances by local choirs, really does make this market stand out from the rest.

Rain-free ice rink

This year, the ice rink is having a complete makeover. Its new clear-span roof means that everyone can enjoy a rain-free skate whatever the weather. It really is the perfect winter playground for adults and children alike.
