Northamptonshire County Youth Orchestra

The orchestra is a school aged ensemble that meets weekly in term time. There are currently 130 young people aged 13-18 in the orchestra.

Membership is subject to annual audition, and the orchestra is one of thirty plus central ensembles offering a pyramid of quality youth arts activities under the banner of the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust.

The trust is a charitable organisation that, with funding from the Arts Council, local councils, schools and the community, supports young people within the Northamptonshire area to engage in a wide range of high level arts activity. The orchestra has recently returned from a very successful tour of Northern Italy and is delighted to be performing one of its favourite pieces here this evening.

The orchestra will perform Respighi’s The Pines of Rome, one of his most durably popular works. The piece is set in four adjoining sections, The Pines of the Villa Borghese, The Pines Near a Catacomb, The Pines of the Janiculum and The Pines of the Appian Way and the orchestra will perform excerpts from the sections and the finale.
