Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier have been crowned Recording of the Year at the Gramophone Awards 2012.

Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier have won the prestigious 'Recording of the Year' category at the Gramophone Awards 2012. From the winners of the 15 categories, the best recording was chosen by a team of music experts.

The album was chosen as the winner of the Baroque Vocal Category, but the Recording of the Year announcement is only revealed at the ceremony itself. Meunier was unaware he had won the prize until his name was called at London's Dorchester Hotel this afternoon.

"My first day in London has proved to be one of the best days of my life," he said.

Meunier did not have a speech prepared, as he was caught completely by surprise by the announcement. He joked with the audience, despite using up many of his lines in his previous acceptance speech, saying his girlfriend wanted a photo with Eric Whitacre!
