Citi Money Gallery at the British Museum

The history of money can be traced back over 4,000 years. During this time, currency has taken many different forms, from coins to banknotes, shells to mobile phones

The new Citi Money Gallery at the British Museum looks at the history of the world, from 4000 years ago to the present, through the lens of money.

Discover how the first coins were minted in ancient Turkey, how paper money was first issued in China, how currency is used in the modern world, and how technology will change how we use money in the future.

The new Citi Money gallery at the British Museum is open daily 10.00–17.30, and open late until 20.30 on Fridays.
Entry is free.
