She claims to be the ‘Mistress of Evil’, but how does Maleficent compare to the wickedest women in opera? Classic FM has given a 'Maleficent rating' to an unnerving host of classical music’s villainesses - from the mildly malevolent to utterly maniacal. By Rob Weinberg
There are plenty of real witches in ‘Macbeth’ but none are quite as disturbed as the protagonist's irritable missus. But this is a tragedy, so we have to be mildly sympathetic. Maleficent rating: four. Tatjana Seran played Lady Macbeth at a Salzburg Festival production in July 2011.
