She claims to be the ‘Mistress of Evil’, but how does Maleficent compare to the wickedest women in opera? Classic FM has given a 'Maleficent rating' to an unnerving host of classical music’s villainesses - from the mildly malevolent to utterly maniacal. By Rob Weinberg
Kundry is a pagan herbalist, cursed to spend her days seducing knights. Not everybody would consider that a curse but Kundry gets quite het up about it. Pictured are Burkhard Fritz as Parsifal and Michaela Schuster as Kundry in a 2005 Berlin State Opera House production.
