The World's Greatest Music
To celebrate our 21st birthday, we've put together some of the greatest 21s in classical music, from opus 21s and symphony 21s to the year 1921 - did your favourite 21 make it in there?
Taking his cue from an epic set of Caprices for solo violin composed by hell-raiser and mean fiddler Niccolo Paganini, Rachmaninov's pianistic reinvention is remarkable. The 21st variation, subtitled 'Un poco più vivo', is far less known than its more famous sibling, the 18th, but there's invention aplenty in here. By this late point in the variations, the game is trying to spot the original Paganini influence in there, struggling to be heard amidst Rach's incredible virtuosity.
