To celebrate our 21st birthday, we've put together some of the greatest 21s in classical music, from opus 21s and symphony 21s to the year 1921 - did your favourite 21 make it in there?
And so begins the greatest symphonic journey of all time! Beethoven's first symphony is by no means his best, but the canon had to start somewhere, and it's great fun to try and pick out the seeds of his later work. He was only 25 when he wrote it, and the final movement even nabs a bit of Haydn as bit of a tribute to the father of the genre.
