The World's Greatest Music
Turning 21 is quite the milestone birthday. On 7 September 2013, Classic FM celebrates 21 years of broadcasting - but what had the great composers achieved by this age?
Prokofiev started experimenting with clashing chords and unusual time signatures shortly after he was 11, at which time he made his first attempt to write a symphony. He'd even written four operas by the time he started at the Conservatory - finishing his first one, The Giant, at the age of 9. Despite graduating from the St Petersburg Conservatory in 1909 with unimpressive marks at the age of 18, the young composer was already making a name for himself as something of a musical rebel.
